I recently picked up this cool Vintage J. Russell Green River Knife Works dessert knife while I was poking around an antique shop on vacation. If you know anything about carbon steel cutlery, you know the Green River brand has a good following among collectors. This particular piece dates back to the 1930s, making it nearly 96 years old. For a knife that’s seen almost a century of action, it was in good condition and had that perfect, authentic patina that you just can't fake. I only gave about $2.00 for it, so it was an easy choice to toss in the basket.
I listed it over on eBay and it recently sold for $9.00. Now, I’m not going to be retiring on a seven-dollar profit, but a win is a win! It’s always satisfying to find a piece of American history and get it into the hands of a collector who appreciates it.
